Classroom Procedures and Expectations How to succeed… Before Class · Make sure you have all materials needed for class (assignment book, pencil, reading notebook, reading folder, your independent reading book, homework). At the Beginning of Class · Come into the classroom quickly and quietly. · Copy the assignment into your assignment book. · Begin the bell ringer or silent reading. At the End of Class · The last 5-10 minutes of class will be used to summarize what was learned in class that day, what the homework assignment is, and an opportunity for students to ask any additional questions. · Mrs. Meier will be the one to dismiss the class once class has finished, not the bell. If You Are Absent · If you are absent come into the classroom and copy into your assignment book the assignment from the previous day that is posted on the back bulletin board. · Check the “Make-Up Work” folders on the back bulletin board for your assignment. Your name will be labeled on the assignment. · It is your responsibility to turn in the make-up assignments. I will not ask you for those assignments. You will need to turn those in on your own accord. If I have not received the make-up assignments within two school days, that assignment will turn into a zero. Leaving Class · Mrs. Meier must sign your assignment book anytime you leave the classroom. The time you leave and return to the classroom will also be noted in your assignment book. Using the Bathroom · You may use your bathroom passes during independent reading time (not during discussions unless it is an emergency). · You must have your assignment book signed by Mrs. Meier to leave for your bathroom break. The assignment book must be taken with you as it is your pass to be out of the classroom. Getting a Drink · Since the classroom has a drinking fountain, you will not be given a pass to use the drinking fountains outside the classroom. · Remember to get your drink before class begins. · If you must get a drink after class has started, you may use the drinking fountain during independent reading time (not during discussions). Speaking in Class · Raise your hand and wait your turn to speak. · While speaking use appropriate/positive language. (This is a RULE!) Sharpening Your Pencil · Make sure your pencil is sharpened before class begins. · Only one person may be at the pencil sharpener at a time. If someone is at the sharpener wait until they return to their seat to sharpen yours. · If your pencil breaks during independent reading time or individual work time you may go sharpen your pencil. · If your pencil breaks during discussion, wait until no one is talking, and ask Mrs. Meier permission to sharpen it. |
